Healthy Ambitions Suffolk is a campaign to make Suffolk the healthiest county in England by 2028. It is a 20-year plan that was published on 5 November 2008.

In what way can we improve health in Suffolk?

Statistics show people in Suffolk living longer and with fewer health problems than the national average. This should be consistent across the county but at the moment there are big differences in life expectancy of as much as eleven years between the more deprived areas and the more affluent areas.

What’s in the plan?

Healthy Ambitions Suffolk is a cause that we hope people will join because they believe in the idea of better health, but it also rewards action. Organisations and individuals can win an Healthy Ambitions Suffolk award if they can demonstrate that they are doing something that will improve people's health. This website contains helpful information on the kinds of things that people and organisations can do. Rewards are in the shape of recognition, publicity, support and possibly financial assistance.

How can I win an award?

If you, your group, your local community or your organisation is actively involved in an initiative to improve people's health, you could be eligible for a Healthy Ambitions Suffolk award. If your organisation has a policy to maintain a healthy workforce, or you are considering having one, then you may be well on your way to being accredited by Healthy Ambitions Suffolk.

Yes, provided it contributes to the goals of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk and can deliver measurable outcomes. I want to give up smoking. Is there any help available in my area?

Yes, there are a range of options open to you, including the opportunity of going to a smoking cessation clinic or group near you. This method has excellent long-lasting results with even the heaviest smokers that feel they can't kick the habit.

I want to lose weight. What are my options?

This website contains some general advice on Healthy Weight, Healthy Diet and Sports facilities and events in Suffolk. Some local GPs provide free access to special schemes such as dance and exercise classes. You can ask at your local practice to see what help is available.
